Andrews Kurth Receives "A" Rating in Minority Hiring
December 4, 2007Austin, Texas
AUSTIN – For the sixth year in a row, Andrews Kurth has earned an “A” grade for exceptional minority hiring and recruitment efforts, according to a report card issued annually by minority bar associations in Austin.
A joint committee of the Hispanic Bar Association of Austin, the Austin Black Lawyers Association and the Austin Asian American Bar Association awards the highest grade to any Austin firm with minorities comprising at least 15% of its lawyers.
“We are pleased with the results,” said Lino Mendiola, the Hiring Partner in Andrews Kurth’s Austin office and a member of the firm’s Diversity Committee. “Our clients recognize and support the importance of diversity of outside counsel and we’re working to be on the leading edge of this critical law firm strategy.”
The joint committee’s report card states that minority attorneys comprise 11.4 percent of the attorneys in Austin’s 25 largest law firms, an increase over last year’s 10.7 percent and the second highest percentage of minority attorneys since reporting began. Also, in a change from previous years, this year’s report was weighted in favor of law firms that have minority partners and hire minority law clerks.
“The accomplishments of our Austin office provide a strong foundation to support our comprehensive diversity and inclusion strategy,” said Elizabeth Campbell, Partner and Chief Diversity Officer. “We will work to build upon this success to further our workplace and marketplace strategic goals.”
