Andrews Kurth Staff Member Wins Paralegal of the Year

November 6, 2007
Houston, Texas

HOUSTONThe Houston Metropolitan Paralegal Association (HMPA) named Andrews Kurth’s Theresa Evenbly as Paralegal of the Year during the organization’s 12th annual gala on Friday, October 26.

A panel of judges, professors and an employment specialist evaluated eight finalists on their work experience, education, professional affiliations, volunteerism and efforts on behalf of the paralegal profession. Among the field of nominees, Theresa was the only Certified Legal Assistant Specialist, a certification noted for its difficulty.

“I am honored by this recognition and grateful to work with lawyers whom I admire immensely. My work is interesting and diverse, which provides an opportunity to learn and grow,” Theresa said. “Our IP group works well together and I like being part of the team.”

Theresa is the fourth paralegal from Andrews Kurth to receive this honor since its inception. The others were Linda Wilson, Tenie Braniff and Betsy Gerber. A paralegal must be a voting member of HMPA. To be considered for the award, a paralegal may be nominated by another paralegal or by a lawyer.

Bill Livesay, Executive Director of Andrews Kurth, stated, “We are extremely pleased with this recognition of Theresa, who is a valuable member of our client services team. Theresa’s broad experience working with patent and trademark lawyers greatly assists our lawyers representation of our clients’ interests at all times. We are proud of this recognition of her contributions.”

The judging panel requests biographical information from each paralegal and contacts the lawyers with whom the paralegal works. Information is compiled on each nominee and sent to the panel of judges who review the information and rank each finalist.
