Andrews Kurth Partner Named to Texas Diversity Council Board

February 21, 2007

HOUSTON – Andrews Kurth is pleased to announce that International Law Partner Doris Rodriguez has been named to the 17-member board of the Texas Diversity Council (TXDC), an organization that is committed to promoting diversity in the workplace and the community.

After beginning her legal career in 1980, Rodriguez was recognized as one of the first women Hispanic partners at a major Houston law firm in 1988. Later she was profiled in a Houston Chronicle feature article about up and coming Hispanic lawyers in Houston, highlighting her outstanding work ethic and status as a partner. In 2004, Rodriguez received an Outstanding Women of Achievement in Law & Government award from the Houston YWCA.

“We’re are extremely proud of Doris and her involvement with the Texas Diversity Council,” said Managing Partner Howard Ayers. “With her background and experience, we are confident she will do an excellent job promoting the importance of diversity at all levels across the state as well as in our own firm.”

The council was founded by CEO Dennis Kennedy with the purpose of developing leaders educated in and aware of all aspects of diversity and developing youth programs that support diversity education and awareness. Some of the programs coordinated by the organization include:

  • Networking and mentoring opportunities with corporate leaders and peers
  • DiversityFirst community outreach for local high school teens
  • Scholarship program for deserving high school and college students
  • Awards and recognition program to promote diversity initiatives

“I was humbled and honored to receive the call from Dennis asking if I would like to serve on the board,” said Rodriguez. “I thank him and the other board members for this opportunity and am eager to work toward improving diversity across Texas. Diversity creates stronger communities and stronger organizations. It benefits each of us.”

In addition to serving on the firm’s Diversity Committee, Rodriguez is a member of multiple committees of the Houston Bar Association, the Professionalism Committee of the State Bar of Texas and the Hispanic Bar Association of Houston. She has also received the Triunfando award from the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

“Doris is unequivocally a trailblazer in the legal profession. We are very honored and fortunate to have her on our board,” said Kennedy. “Her dedication to the community of Texas and her passion for diversity makes Doris the perfect person to be on our board. With her guidance and leadership, the Council is expecting to do great things.”
