He has been practicing law for nearly 40 years, focusing on commercial real estate and public facilities development projects in major U.S. cities. Howard has held many leadership positions at the firm including serving as the firm-wide Managing Partner for ten years. During this time, he was a steadfast leader in advancing diversity and inclusion for the legal profession. Hallmarks of his tenure as Managing Partner were sponsoring and steadily expanding the firm's biennial executive Women's Retreat, enhancing the firm's benefits programs to promote diversity and inclusion, creating the firm's Diversity Committee and its Women's Initiative Team, and adding emphasis to the firm's commitment by recruiting a Partner and full-time Chief Diversity Officer. In addition, he served on the Houston Bar Association's Gender Fairness Task Force and later co-chaired its Gender Fairness Committee for the 2006-2007 term.
